Amazing!

I wanted to take a brief moment and share some of the first portrait shots taken of Claire with my new camera.

I have to say I am just stunned.  I LOVE this new camera.  I absolutely LOVE it.  (For those who are interested it's a Nikon D7100)  The auto focus works like a dream; the 50mm prime lens I bought lets in tons of light and has a gorgeous depth of focus at low f-stops.  The white balance is nice and accurate.  The controls are actually quite intuitive and mostly well placed.

The snaps below are literally just snaps taken the morning after I opened the box. I spent no time on post processing and they are JPEGs right out of the camera.  They are hand held with artificial lighting.  I have to say I really like them just as is.  If the camera and lens perform this well in crappy low lighting, I can't wait to see what I get with optimal natural light.

I won't bore you with the detailed specs on my new camera, but if you're interested leave me a comment and I'd be happy to share all the gory details about my new camera in an e-mail or over the phone.  I'm just over the moon excited!

I hope everyone is well!

Fun with new camera

Hi Everyone!

I finally took the plunge and bought a new camera. I've been wanting one forever so I finally just did it. This is to replace my aging Olympus DSLR. The new camera is a Nikon 7100 DSLR and it does video as well, which is sort of a new feature for DSLRs.

I wasn't really all that interested in the video capabilities, but it actually does pretty well for video so I might use it more often.

Here's a goofy little montage I put together last night. It's pretty rough so don't judge me too harshly.

It's Friday and I'm looking forward to the weekend!

Snow Day!

Remember in my last entry when I was talking about how it was 65 degrees?  Well, those days are just a memory now.  We've had temperatures in the teens and snow nearly non-stop since Thursday.  As of this afternoon, about 18" had accumulated on the deck.  We spend the day outside playing in it and defrosting my car to put it in the garage.  Heh. Kind of late to put it in the garage, but at least it'll be dry for work on Monday!

Claire got her first taste of deep snow.  We don't have snow pants for her so we made some make-shift snow pants out of plastic bags and hair elastics!

They worked pretty well!

She got to play in the trailer that was full of snow.

I wonder if we'll be able to get out of the driveway?

Icicles on the front of the house.

Back inside looking out the window after a hot bath!

What a lot of fun!

I hope everyone is doing well.

Sunny weekend

Hello everyone!

This is the second set of 35mm photos I just had developed.  Most of these shots were taken on a week ago Sunday when we had beautiful sun and 65 degrees.

It's since gone back to freezing and now we have snow again.

We went shoe shopping last Saturday and at the shoe store Claire got a helium balloon.  She has had a lot of fun playing with it.

The clouds have been just right for some gorgeous sunrises.

Here's some shots of the mountains off the deck.  I think I need to use a UV filter for the film camera to prevent washed out and over-exposed skies.

Claire has taken a few steps on her own this past weekend.  I hope to get a video of that and post it here soon.

I don't have much to say today. I hope everyone is doing well!

Love,
Jane
